Dear All,

It was a pleasure and productive meeting that we had yesterday - Thanks to GS for the initiative!

A brief writeup on what was discussed.

GS and others were primarily concerned about the vanishing water sources and the malpractice of using dried lakes as garbage disposal sites. Perungudi, in particular, was taken up yesterday (Why Perungudi? No specific reason - there are enough depleted lakes around!).

Some ideas were discussed on how the water shortage crisis could be overcome.

We all agreed that the issue of Perungudi lake had to be tackled and that the media could be used as a powerful vehicle to create awareness amongst local bodies/public.

Action points

To check media possibilites

To make a visit to the Perungudi site next week to get a first-hand impression

Harish/Gokul could give a better minutes of yesterdays meeting

GS to introduce Mr.Kannan (Ecademy?) and enlighten him on the process of Ryzing

Research on waste management and control (by ALL)

Sharadha to contribute by writing articles and raise awareness

Cheers
Raghav

hi all,
Really appreciate people who made it yesterday..good to know that people realise social responsibilities in life..most of the times we are all caught up in our own lives and we seldom think of the environment surrounding it..afterall the city we live is also our home...

thanks all..
Initating the process will give us some ray of hope and propel us to take some strong actions..
cheers

Raghav,

You have done a good and timely job in putting up the posting on what happened at the meet yesterday.

And I am very happy that yesterday's meeting could identify 2-3 active new members, who are out to prove their capabilities to network in WCFC with purpose.

Cheers!

Precisely accurate timing.. Raghav.. Well I thought of posting the detailed minutes of yesterdays meeting but resigned due ot the fact that you have covered almost everything.

Lets get in to action this Sunday. Eagerly waiting to see the place. GS.. I shall bring my movie camera as promised..Give me a buzz on Saturday to confirm the time and place we meet.. Also Sharada.. if you could arrange for that press photographer it could prove to be really useful.

It was really wonderful meeting you guys and feels good that Iam on the direction of doin something for city most guys including me calls BAD.

Lets try and bring happiness to people at Perungudi.. Let the vigor, zeal, quest , pursuit and more importantly courage be with us thru out.

This is a novel attempt from our side to voice our opinions and suggestions on various aspects of life in Chennai, coupled with links to articles that we stumble upon day-in and day-out. It is important for us to take everything to logical conclusions with sustained efforts and interest so that it aint gonna be boring and let ppl doze off. Will do our best to meet on a regular basis and not be consistently inconsistent with it....Lets make things happen and GET GOIN...

God bless

thanks again..

p.s. Ragav i stopped at your page and trust me it will take atleast 1 hour to read what you have posted.. looks a good page.. Have not comPleted it. ...will come later and swallow the entire thing.. take care.

At the OUTSET a big sorry , somehow i missed the Timing . A small suggestion on the water front .
The recycling of water from Kitchen & Bathrooms can be reused for atleast percolating into the hard soil which is breaking , this itslef will improve the water bed for the bores in the individual household .This will improve the vegetation around in turn may please the rain gods and make palces around cooler.

Second suggestion is aforestation - planting trees around the area of their houses .

Any more suggestions are welcome .
Due to work schedules - missing the sunday meets , hope to meet u all soon .

thanks gokul rama.. I was visiting Cochin and Trivandrum and marvelling the neatness of Kerala temples and the discipline they have in following the 'Q' system in the temples. Noone is 'VIP' in kerala temples and the priest does not accept cash in hand. Everyone has to follow the dress code no matter how great he is. Saw Padmapuram palace and still could not believe how they could make the floowing so smooth and shining..Though it is in Tamilnadu, it is maintained by Kerala Government and the guides do their duty so wonderfully. So now tell me are you all going to meet in Perungudi tomorrow. so far I have not seen any posts to that effect and wish you all the best.
hope to meet you all soon..

Cogito, ergo sum
Hi Lavanyaji,

I'm new to this chatterati and have been infused into this primarily by Goks a.k.a Gokul Raman, who happens to be a long time pal of mine....

I was drawn to your comments about the Kerala Temples as I'm from Trivandrum, thanks for the appreciation...

But if you would have interacted with the plebeians there, you would come to know one sorry state viz; the utter disregard shown by the TamilNadu Govt in maintaining the temples in Kanyakumari District which were once part of Kerala..there was this program in Asianet about this...Imagine a temple sweeper being paid Rs.60 per month for the past 35 years...spare a tear for them.

I do not think the massive temples in Suchindram and Thiruvattar (make haste if you have not been there!!) would be as clean as they are now after a few years...when these 70-something workers pass away and youngsters take their place...

As for the Padmanabhapuram palace it is being pampered by the Travancore Royalty and so it is in safe hands..{touch-wood}...for now

I am settled in Chennai for the past 7 years and initially was appalled by the state of the temples in TamilNadu like Madurai,Palani and why....the ones in Mylapore and Vadapalani...

This needs a thought from WCFC I guess..one more leaf to the gargantuan pile of issues that Chennai faces!!!

Let's Keep the Faith

Cheers

Good point made Vinod.. the plight of some of the temples in Chennai is really bad and the attention or efforts from Govt has fizzled out.
We see many water tanks and mandapams in many temples in unpropitious conditions.
Instead of brushing aside the problems with a “It will not work”, why can’t we work at them together? Alone, we will be like screams in the desert. But together, we can make it happen.

Yes, Yes, my friend. Together we can ..
But shud be after the water and tree venture...catch u..
